In a startling development, a former employee of a private firm in Noida has been apprehended for allegedly fabricating input tax credits amounting to Rs 1.8 crore. Abhinav Tyagi, who resides in the Bisrakh area of Greater Noida and hails from Moradabad, is charged with generating fraudulent invoices totaling around Rs 10 crore to deceive the Goods and Services Tax (GST) system and secure illegitimate credits.
Tyagi, employed in the accounts department, exploited his position to alter filings on GST and tax return platforms. Authorities suspect he executed the scam in collaboration with an accomplice.
On Saturday, the cyber police in Noida arrested Abhinav Tyagi. According to Shavya Goyal, the additional deputy commissioner of police (central Noida), he had fabricated invoices worth approximately Rs 10 crore to claim GST credits of Rs 1.8 crore.
The police seized four mobile phones, eight SIM cards, a laptop, a vehicle, GST-related documents, and a rental agreement from Tyagi. An FIR has been lodged against him under various sections of the Indian Penal Code and the Information Technology Act.
Following his court appearance, Tyagi was remanded to jail. Meanwhile, law enforcement is actively searching for his accomplice, who remains at large.
